新华网北京5月18日电 据中国政府网报道，国务院今天发布公告宣布，为表达全国各族人民对四川汶川大地震遇难同胞的深切哀悼，国务院决定，2008年5月19日至21日为全国哀悼日。公告全文如下：

为表达全国各族人民对四川汶川大地震遇难同胞的深切哀悼，国务院决定，2008年5月19日至21日为全国哀悼日。在此期间，全国和各驻外机构下半旗志哀，停止公共娱乐活动，外交部和我国驻外使领馆设立吊唁簿。5月19日14时28分起(英国时间5月19日早上7点28分)，全国人民默哀3分钟，届时汽车、火车、舰船鸣笛，防空警报鸣响。

5月21日至23日（周三至周五） 10.00am-4.00pm 于Market Square

北京时间2008年5月12日下午2：28，四川省汶川县发生里氏7.8级地震，包括首都北京在内的多个省市均有不同程度的震感。截止到2008年5月16日星期五，四川省里氏4级以上余震共发生121次，遇难人数估计在5万人以上，约1.5万人下落不明，其中有约2千名中小学生和老师被埋在坍塌的学校下。一时间，震区变成了人间炼狱，随时可能有生命在废墟中咽下微弱的气息。有官员称，约有一千万人被此次地震波及。中国政府、中国人民解放军以及社会各界人士正在紧张地进行救援工作，部分其他国家也正向震区提供援助。

Call for China Earthquake Donation
On the afternoon of May 12, 2008, a major earthquake measuring 7.8 on the Richter scale hit the town of Wenchuan, Szechwan province. More than 14 cities as far as the capital Beijing felt it. Until Friday, 16 May 2008, another 121 aftershocks above 4 on the Richter scale happened in Szechwan province.
More than 50,000 people were feared dead including nearly 2,000 students and teachers caught in schools that collapsed. About 15,000 people are missing, many of them are buried. Dozens of thousands of people have lost their friends, families and loved ones, and yet, they are struggling on the boarder of death! 10 million people have been affected by the quake, said by officials.The Chinese government is fighting against time to save lives in rescue and relief work. Some other countries stand ready to assist China quake victims.
